Long Dusty Coat

Haunting Explorations

Sculpture

Expanding into 3-d sculpture seems a natural extension of artistic expression for Hornsby. Even his paintings have always been thick with texture and modeled with paint and added materials such as wire, paper, fabric, rock and sand, etc. So, according to the artist, these things are already sculpture-like in some ways. Also, the fact that many of his paintings are modular brings forth a sense of sculpture as well. "Creating, is always about the story, my fascination with any particular topic always inspires my story-related art." says Hornsby.

Long Dusty Coat

Title: Long Dusty Coat

Media: Mixed (Acrylic, cloth, rubber,
paper, mirror, and wire)

Size: 41" x 33" x 23"

From the artist:
"One form of inspiration, for me, comes from music. The sculpture, 'Long Dusty Coat', was inspired by the song 'Man in the Long Black Coat' by Bob Dylan. His lyrics read 'The windows wide open African trees, bent over backwards from a hurricane breeze. Not a word of goodbye, not even a note. She'd gone with the man in the long black coat.' I believe this is a song that attacks one of the most vulnerable spots in human nature with apocalyptic imagery. When death comes, in its many disguises, and atmosphere of despair, they'll be no escaping the 'Long Dusty Coat.'"
